Rebels take 3rd at Falcon Invite.
The year was 2011, but the weather was exactly the same as 2010. Cold, breezy, and raining were the conditions the Rebels played in at Parkersburg. Despite the weather, the Rebels came in 3rd place with a 165 on a very long course. Mason City Newman were the champions with a 159 and Grundy Center was 2nd with a 163, only two strokes better than the Rebels. Logan Petersen had his best round of the season with a 39. Kevin Trobaugh had a 41, Brady Billerbeck, 42, Parker Bolt 43, Jacob Smoldt 44, and Taylor Harris had a 46. I was very happy with the way the boys played considering the conditions. The team is really coming together and shooting scores that I knew they were capable of. The Rebels have the upcoming Spartan Invite and then travel to Denver.
G-R golfers take 2nd at Spartan Invite
On a not so beautiful day, the Rebel boys weathered the rain, wind, and cold to take 2nd in the Spartan Invite. Its only the 2nd year for the Rebels to participate and each year its been raining. We shot a 174 at Town and Country and getting 2nd was our team goal heading into the meet. Logan Petersen led the Rebels with a 40, Brady Billerbeck 44, Parker Bolt 45, and Kevin Trobaugh 45. G-R was 7 strokes out of 1st place Grundy Center. We are looking forward for some nice weather to play in.
Rebels slip past the Wolverines
On Friday, April 29th, we headed over to Fox Ridge in Dike for a dual with the Wolverines. The day was supposed to be the best of the week, however it was the windiest. Fox Ridge was challenging for our boys due to the wind. They got to see quite a bit of the course because of the wind. Despite the wind, we were able to pull out a 187-188 victory. Leading the way for the Rebels was Kevin Trobaugh with a 45. Logan Petersen and Jacob Smoldt both fired a 46. Brady Billerbeck came in with a uncharacteristic 50. We play sectionals at Fox Ridge so I think the boys have seen enough of the course now and will have better course management during that meet.
G-R golfers shorthanded at Tripoli
The Rebels traveled to Tripoli on Monday, May 2nd. We were short handed due to a soccer game and track and field conference meet. Due to the absence of 3 out of our top 6 varsity players, we had a season high of 203. Leading the Rebels was Kevin Trobaugh with a 43. Stepping up to the help the Rebels on varsity were Austin Harris, Steve Ingham and Logan Koester. We look forward to hosting a couple meets at Oak Leaf to end the season.
Rebels upset the
The G-R Rebel golfers upset the Spartans at Oak Leaf 171-173. I believe in home course advantage and this helped out the Rebels. The weather finally cooperated and gave us a nice night to golf. Leading the Rebels to the medalist was Kevin Trobaugh with a 38. Also helping the cause were: Brady Billerbeck 44, Parker Bolt 44, Jacob Smoldt, 45 , and Logan Petersen, 45. To beat the Spartans we knew we had to have someone to shoot 37 or 38 and have our others be consistent. Our kids answered and played well for our first victory over the Spartans since taking the conference title from them in 2006. This was a great win for our kids and hopefully they can continue to build on the win and start to peak when it counts.
