Cecil R. Lauterbach, 82, of Reinbeck, formerly of Waterloo, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, following a brief illness.

Cecil Ray Lauterbach was born May 27, 1928, in Reinbeck, the son of Edd and Esther Meewes Lauterbach. He lived in Reinbeck until the 8th grade when his family moved to Waterloo. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp. in his Junior year at West High School, in 1946, and served until 1948, much of the time in Guam. Following his discharge he returned to West and graduated in 1949. He attended the typesetting program at the University of Iowa, worked for a time as a typesetter at the Cedar Valley Times in Vinton and returned to Waterloo to work at John Deere. He attended the Electrician program there and worked as a journeyman electrician for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

Cecil married Mary Ann Stewart July 27, 1952 in Waterloo and she died June 22, 1988. He married Diana Cummings on April 7, 1989 in Waterloo.

He was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #138, AMVET Post #19, 50-year member of the American Numismatic Assoc., and a volunteer with Cedar Valley Hospice since 1988.Cecil was an avid bowler, enjoyed golf, quiet time in the garden, a coin collector for many years, and enjoyed traveling.

Cecil is survived by his wife Diana; son Charles (Teresa) Lauterbach of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; daughter Jane Marie (Mark) Hill of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter Ann Elizabeth (Rochelle Prunty) Lauterbach of Putney, Vt.; step-daughter Mona (Kevin) Ash of Grundy Center; step-son Roy (Linda Dixon) Cummings of Portland, Ore.; step-son Mark Cummings of Cedar Falls; step-son Lee (Teresa Urich) Cummings of Waterloo; step-son Glen (Sherry) Cummings of Spencer; 1 granddaughter and 11 step grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; and three brothers: Russell Lauterbach of Waterloo; James Lauterbach of Des Moines; Gary (Rosella) Lauterbach of Humboldt.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Ann, step-son Carl Cummings, step-grandson John Cummings, and brothers Leon and Kenneth Lauterbach.

Services were held Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Waterloo; Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Amvets Waterloo Post #19 and Evansdale Post #31.
