Get ready, get set, go. We are off with the 2011 track season. This season we have a small group, but no lack of talent. The team consists of Sonya Beichley, Stephanie Dilly, Alyssa Gauthier, Jill Schildroth, Racheal Cheeseman, Jenna Roeding, Abbie Walton, Sidney Dilly, Alyssa Christopher, Lauren Gauthier, Mikayla Knaack, Britney Keller, Ellie Stoakes and Alycea Reeder.
Our season started with the state indoor meet at UNI. We ran the Dickinson Relays on March 22nd and as always it provides a good opportunity for me to see where the girls are at and allows the girls to get rid of the early season nervousness. The meet had some nice surprises and showed some obvious areas in conditioning that we need to continue to work hard at and improve in.
The top highlight of the meet was in the 400 Meter Dash. Rachael Cheeseman ran a tough, competitive first season race with a time of 1:01.27 and taking 2nd place overall. This was a great start for Rachael and it will set the tone for the rest of the season for her and the team.
Everyone ran hard and I was pleased with our first meet. We have a very long way to go yet and with not a whole lot of time to get to the level of conditioning we need to be at towards the end of our season. If every one of the girls gives it their all in practice and in meets we will get there. Everyone needs to improve with each meet so that by districts we are running at our very best!
Next meet is Thursday, April 7th at the Union Girls Invitational.
