Do you have concerns about falling? Have you cut down on your favorite activity because you might fall? Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging in cooperation with Allen College is offering A Matter of Balance, an award winning workshop designed to help reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling. If you have concerns about falling, have sustained a fall in the past, restrict your activity because of concerns about falling, and want to improve your flexibility, balance and strength A Matter of Balance is the class for you.
During 8 two-hour sessions, participants learn to:
View falls and fear of falling as controllable
Set realistic goals for increasing activity
Change their environment to reduce fall risk factors
Promote exercise to increase strength and balance
Don't let the fear of falling slow you down, register today for A Matter of Balance. Classes will be held at Westview Estates on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. starting April 6. Westview Estates is located at 1013 2nd Street in Reinbeck.
Preregistration is required by calling Sandy Beem at 319-634-3488. The workshop fee, per participant, includes a detailed training manual and all class supplies. Scholarships are available to persons 60 year of age and older who express financial need.
