KANSAS CITY, Mo. - No. 22 Northwest Missouri State downed Emporia State 79-63 on Sunday in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women's basketball tournament final.
Emporia State senior center Alli Volkens, a Gladbrook-Reinbeck grad, had a career-game, but the 2010 NCAA Division II champion Lady Hornets were denied the MIAA's automatic bid to the South Central Regional.
Volkens scored a career-high 29 points to go with 18 rebounds and three blocks for Emporia State. Volkens earned a spot on the all-MIAA tournament team and her 47 rebounds in the tournament shattered the previous tournament record by 13 boards. The 73 points scored by Volkens over the three games is third-most in MIAA tournament history.
In the career charts at ESU, Volkens ends her career at No. 14 in scoring (1,360 points), No. 4 in rebounds (895), No. 2 in blocks (216) and No. 4 in free throws made (450).
