10-0 on season with Win over East Marshall

Tuesday, Jan. 25th, G-R 8th grade boys basketball played a home game against East Marshall Mustangs and the Rebels won the game 48-31, now 100 overall. The night before, in practice we worked almost solely on lay ups and our short shots around the basket, I guess we need more work in this area as we simply missed at least 20 lay ups or short shots in this contest, combined with some unforced turnover, it made for a tighter game. Overall each player is learning every night and gaining skill improvement, but with a game like this it's all about the little things that can haunt you.

On the positive side, the young Rebels, had balanced scoring from 9 players and were lead by Zach Pierce 11 pts., followed by Luke Holman and Camden Kickbush 7 pts. each, Bradon Trepp 6 pts. (statically his best game of season), Cameron Clark 6 pts. (season record of 17 rebounds in this game), Philip Zimmerman 5 pts., Noah Orht, Bennett Petersen, and Brady Kuehl 2 pts. each.

Other players contributing just as important in steals, assists, & rebounds and all those other little things are: Austin Bell, Matt VanHauen (works harder every night in practice than any player with a great attitude!), Logan Flamme, Brady Wagner, & Bryce Ehlers.

11-0 on season

Thursday, Jan. 27th, G-R 8th grade boys basketball played a home game against West Marshall, with the Rebels winning 39-17, now 110 overall. Rebels jumped on the Trojans to start the game with a 10-0 run, and at halftime the score was 23-5. We then played a new trap defense that we had not played this season. I would love to have stayed in that longer, but with a 29-7 lead shortly into the 3rd quarter we pulled back and focused on another goal to get a basket for Matt VanHauen during the second half. He deserves every minute of playtime, he works very hard every night in practice and is a great teammate.

During this game our fans got to see some unselfish post playing, as Zach Pierce, has raised his game to read the double team and make the pass to other big men off the double team. It's all about team work, and hustling- equals good things happening.

The Rebels leading scorer was Cameron Clark 16 pts. (season high), Luke Holman 6 pts., Brady Kuehl 5 pts., Zach Pierce 4 pts., Bradon Trepp (solid game), Noah Orht, Logan Flamme, and Phil Zimmerman 2 pts. each.

The final game was Monday Jan 31st A-P at Gladbrook to conclude the season.
