Reinbeck Courier

Tuesday, Jan. 18th, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball traveled to Union and the Rebels came away with a 42-14 win, Rebels are now 8-0 overall. We came out with our weakest start of any game this season and never got things going until the 2nd quarter.

The game ended with two high notes: We had 11 G-R players scoring in this game, and we gave up a season low of 14 points to the Comets. Two team stats that are going to be hard to top in our next 4 upcoming games on this season. The Young Rebels were lead by Zach Pierce 12 pts., followed by Camden Kickbush 8 pts., Phil Zimmerman 6 pts. with Cameron Clark, Luke Holman, Bradon Trepp, Brady Wagner, Bryce Ehlers, Bennett Petersen, Logan Flamme, & Noah Ohrt all with 2 points each.

Other players contributing just as importunately in steals, assists, & rebounds were: Austin Bell, Matt VanHauen, and Brady Kuehl. The schedule is Thursday, Jan. 20th at South Hardin (Hubbard site), Tues. Jan 25th East Marshall at Gladbrook, Thurs. Jan. 27th West Marshall at Gladbrook, and Monday Jan 31st A-P at Gladbrook to conclude our season, the starting time is 4:15 p.m. for the 8th graders.

Win in Tight Game vs. South Hardin

Thursday, Jan. 20th, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball traveled to Hubbard to face one of best teams in the area, we played them in Gladbrook our 1st game of the season and each team had some breakdowns in that Dec. 2nd contest we won by 8 points. We knew this could be anyone's game. South Hardin was gunning for us and they played hard every second of this contest to revenge there only loss to us. This turned out to be a great contest with a lot of challenges the Rebels had to overcame: some interesting referee calls for both sides, a tight older gym, a lot parents and fans on each side getting into this game, our untimely turnovers and mistakes and our late game poor shooting.

You must give South Hardin credit, they caused most of these issues, but in the end came we came out on top. The final score was 39 36, now 9 0 overall. We were so close to putting this contest out of reach, up 11 points to start the 4th quarter, but then we had 4 turnovers near there basket leading to easy points by them, we missed several bunny shots on our end, we went 4 for 7 from foul line with 2 front ends of 1-1 missed all in the 4th quarter. To set the stage for tight finish as those 4 free throws were all we scored in the 4th quarter to secure this 3 point win.

The Young Rebels were lead by Camden Kickbush 15 pts. (making 2 clutch free throws with .5 seconds to secure the win, likely his best game of season), Zach Pierce 10 pts. (played a solid game), followed by Phil Zimmerman 6 pts. (who carried us in the 2nd qrt & fouled out) with Cameron Clark 4 pts. (season high 13 rebounds in this game & had 4 fouls early in 2nd qrt and played threw it), Bennett Petersen 2 pts. (Mr. Defense!), and Brady Kuehl 2 pts. (Mr. unselfish makes everyone else a lot better when he is on the floor).

Other players contributing just as valuable in steals, assists, & rebounds and all those other little things are: Austin Bell, Matt VanHauen, Logan Flamme, Brady Wagner, Bradon Trepp, Bryce Ehlers, Noah Orht, and Luke Holman.
