Thursday, Dec. 2nd, G-R 8th grade boys basketball team opened the season in Gladbrook with difficult South Hardin team. G-R won the contest 25 to 17, now 1-0 overall. We played an up tempo game style with a lot of hustling and defense 1st thinking and it paid off holding one of the more talented teams around to 17 points. The Rebels have 14 8th graders on the team and with Tigers playing only 8 players. We had to dig down for this win. Leading the Rebels was Luke Holman with 8 points followed by Camden Kickbush & Cameron Clark 5 pts. each, Zach Pierce 3 pts., Bennett Petersen, Brady Kuehl, and Brandon Trepp 2 pts. each, other players contributing in assists & steals were Logan Flamme, Phil Zimmerman, Matt VanHauen, Brady Wagner, Bryce Ehlers, Noah Ohrt, and Austin Bell. Rebel's 8th grade boys don't slow down!
Dec. 9th, G-R 8th grade boys basketball team picked up the pace and ran over the East Marshall Mustangs 49-16 improving to 2-0 this season. Iowa High School Athletic Association implemented a new rule this season at all levels, once the point spread reaches 35 points the game clock runs continuance unless the spread goes below 25 points then normal clock rules apply, the young Rebels found themselves on the fortunate side of this rule early in the 4th quarter. Leading the game was Zach Pierce with 14 points, Luke Holman 10 pts., Phil Zimmerman 9 pts., Camden Kickbush 6 pts., Brady Kuehl & Cameron Clark 4 pts. each, Bryce Ehlers 2 pts., other players contributing in other ways were Bennett Petersen, Logan Flamme, Matt VanHauen, Noah Ohrt, in the steals, rebounds and assists areas.
This was good team confidence builder in our up tempo style and was a lot of fun as the players are working very hard in practices and it transferred into this game. Nicely done is the best way to sum up this game. Our schedule is Dec. 14 home vs. BCLUW, Dec. 16th at Grundy Center, and Dec. 20th at GMG.
