It was a beautiful early fall evening and the Rebels made the trip to Hudson to battle the Pirates in a JV match up. Coach Sniffin and his staff have done a nice job with this program and utilizing their kids to their full potential. We knew after a big varsity win on the Friday before, the Pirates would be ready to give us a little payback.
We received the opening kick and went three and out. The Pirates were fired up and after a solid defensive stand, they took to the offensive side. They proceeded to march straight down the field and go up 7-0 very early. They were hitting on all cylinders on both sides of the ball and added another quick score to go up 14-0. This must have been our wake up call and we answered with a very impressive 75 yard drive capped off with a 1 yard Chase Clark plunge to pay dirt. Hudson then countered with a drive of their own right before the half time whistle to take a 20-6 lead at the break. The second half saw the Rebels play sound football for 20 minutes. We were sound defensively and got a score from Trevor Trunck to Joe Zimmerman from 16 yards out to narrow the gap to 20-14 with 5 minutes to go in the game. We recovered the onside kick and then turned it right back to the Pirates. They were able to eat up much of the clock before turning it back over to us, but we had too far to go and not enough time to get there. This 20-14 loss moves us to 3-4 on the year. We really put together a very good second half. We need to find the switch earlier in the game. We have to play four quarters. We can not get by on two or two and a half or three. We need four quarters. We will learn from this and do everything that we can to make this happen. Good effort but it would have been great had we played the whole game. Keep working hard and like Coach Babinat says, "We like you."
Chase Clark and Dustin Dinsdale led the way with 96 and 70 yards rushing. Trevor was 10 of 17 for 136 yards passing. Joe caught 3 for 49, Jackson Clark 4 for 67, Dustin 2 for 13, and Jake Smoldt 1 for 7. Our leading tackler was Pete Meyers with 8 followed closely by Cody Umphrey, Jackson, and Jeremy Schlampp all had 7 stops apiece and Jeremy recovered a fumble. Joe 6, Alex Schick 5, Blake Kibe 4, Jake, Wyatt Swanson, Paul Chamberlain, and Shawn Dugan 3, Colin Kern 2, Logan Koester and Dirk Thesing added 1 each to finish off our defensive stats. This is a good group of kids and if they continue to work hard and be good teammates and people, the opportunities are endless. Keep an eye on this group as they move up through the ranks. We should expect many good things from them.
