JV Rebels volleyball update

October 15, 2010
Julie Frischmeyer

We are weeks into games and tournament. Lets get you all caught up. Our overall record as of this typing is 4-6. Our conference record is 2-3. Here's what you've been missing.

Wapsie Valley was our first opponent. With much anticipation and excitement we started the match going point for point with them two full rotations. We took a big lead late in the game but could not finish and ended up losing 21-23. Game two we came out strong and confident winning 21-11. In game three Wapsie got two five point runs early and although we were coming back strong we simply ran out of game. I was very pleased with our effort and fight in all three games.

In our first home match of the season, the East Marshall Mustangs beat us with a plethora of free balls that we could neither bring up from the floor nor put down for a kill. As a result we dropped three games 15-25, 23-25, and 9-15. Our setter Kristen Tessau won "coaches choice" team player award thanks to her serving and hustle throughout the match. She was a beacon of light in an otherwise dismal and dreary night of volleyball.

After a very productive practice on Wednesday night we played the cougars of AGWSR. We tweaked our line up, stiffened up our defense and sharpened up our serving. End result Victory- 25-21, 20-25, 15-11. Carrie Shouse led the team in Kills with 10 Rachel Bown with 5 and a block, Sidney Dilly added 4 and played great defense getting 7 digs and two blocks. Taylor Flamme led the team in assist 11 and ace serves 4. Madi Corwin had 5 digs. Erin Wentzien had 2 ace serves and 4 digs and a block. Callie Kuehl did a nice job in her new position as middle hitter and Kristen Tessau continued to impress the coach with her hustle and team leadership on the court.

In our conference match up with BCLUW the girls played well and we came away with a "w" for the win column. Rachel B. led the team in kills with 5. She also added 2 blocks and 3 ace serves to her stats. Sid D. added 4 kills and Erin Wentzien put 3 kills in the big book of kills. Taylor Flamme had 10 assist with 2 ace serves. Carrie Shouse came off the injured reserve list and added 2 kills and 1 block to her stat chart. Kristen T stayed busy tallying 6 ace serves and going 16 for 16 from the line. Callie Kuehl continues to improve in the middle position she had a kill and an ace serve. Madi Corwin did her backcourt magic digging up the ball and even record a back row kill. Game scores were 25-10 and 25-22.

West Marshall came to town, although we played pretty we just couldn't get the win. 2 points decided all three games and they all took extra points to determine a winner. Scores were 30-32, 26-24 and 14-16. I was very pleased with our play all night. We may not have won, but more importantly we never stopped fighting for the win. Everyone played well. Kill leaders were Erin W. 11, Sidney D. 7, and Callie K. 4. Kristen T and Madi C lead the team in digs with 12 and 11. Taylor F had 11 assist and served 7 of 7. Rachel B. had 2 kills and 2 blocks. It was two evenly matched teams battling it out to the end.

The rebels also played the GMG tournament and South Hardin and won 3 -0.
