JV Rebel football
On Monday October 4 the Rebels hosted the visitors from the west, the BCLUW Comets. We have a good rivalry between these two schools and no matter what sport it is you always know you are going to get outstanding effort from each side. These games are a lot of fun and the outcome is never known until that final horn sounds. This night would be no different.
The Comets jumped out early and played very well as they marched down the field and scored a TD to take an early lead. We then countered with a long run of 64 yards to pay dirt from Chase Clark and he also added the PAT for a Rebel lead of 8-6 just into quarter number 2. Jackson Clark then added a 32 yard TD reception from Trevor Trunck right before the half to put us up 14-6 at the break. The third quarter saw us cross the goal line again on a 2 yard TD pass from Trevor to Jake Smoldt. Chase added the PAT run for a 22-6 lead. BCLUW tacked on a late score but we held on for the victory moving us to 3-3 on the year. This was a good football game for us and we did a lot of things well. We still have some thing that we need to get better at these next two weeks. These kids work hard and they are very coachable and that makes our jobs much easier. Keep it up guys and great win.
Chase led the offense with 173 yards on 23 carries and a TD plus 2 2-point PAT's. Trevor ended the night 7 of 15 for 105 yards and 2 scores. Jackson Clark made 3 receptions for 59 yards and a TD. Jake Smoldt added 2 grabs for 24 yards and a score of his own. Joe Zimmerman hauled one of Trunck's passes in accounting for the final 16 yards. Alex Schick had a very nice game from his defensive line position finishing with a team high 9 tackles. Jackson followed close behind with 8 and Jake and Blake Kibe added 5 stops each. Pete Meyers, Paul Chamberlain, Jeremy Schlampp, and Colin Kern had 4 each, Joe and Logan Koester 3, Shawn Dugan 2, Allen Heise and Tyler Bovy each added a stop for our tackle totals. Colin also added a pick and a fumble recovery, Shawn a fumble recovery, and Joe an interception to add to our turnover totals. Cody Umphrey also helped us out with some playing time and finished with 5 tackles of his own. It was a good effort by these guys and a good win.
Our season finale will take place on Monday October 18 as we play host to the Cyclones from Denver. This will be an early start with a 5:00 pm start due to the music concert that night. Come on out for an early evening and take a peak at the future of Rebel football.
We made the trip south to LeGrand on Thursday October 7th for our last game of the 2010 season. We had some momentum going in coming off a big win last week at AGWSR. This season has been tough on these young men as we have asked them to play virtually two games per week. That is tough to do. Many of these guys see a lot of action on Monday's also. These guys are young and they bounce back quickly but after 5 or 6 weeks of this, it will wear on you. These guys have been troopers all year long and have responded very well to all we have thrown at them. We needed to be ready to finish off the year.
The game started slowly for each and at the end of one quarter we held a slim 8-6 lead as each team was trying to find their mojo. We then found ours and went on a 22 point quarter to cruise into halftime with a 30-6 lead. Our defense was solid and we were blocking very well as we broke off numerous long runs. The offensive line did a great job opening up holes for our backs to glide through. We added an insurance TD in the third to make the final margin 38-6 moving us to 2-4 on the year. The last two weeks we responded very well and came out with two big wins. Our early season schedule was tough and we easily could have felt sorry for ourselves but didn't. These guys continued to work hard and do things right and it all paid off for them. This was an outstanding effort to cap off our year.
Chase Clark led the way with 190 yards rushing, 3 TD's, and 3 PAT runs. He also had a team high 12 tackles. Dustin Dinsdale had a fine game with 81 yards on the ground, 1 catch for 10 yards and 6 tackles. Hunter Raney finished with 46 yards rushing, 43 yards passing, 2 TD's, and a fumble recovery. Shawn Dugan caught the Hunter TD pass accounting for 30 yards and he added 3 tackles and a fumble recovery. Wyatt Swanson caught a PAT conversion pass and had 4 tackles. Blake Kibe had a fine game from his defensive end spot and finished with 11 tackles which is a career high for him. Andy Meyers added 9, Seth Demoret 4, Tyler Bovy and Joey Linder 3, Ryan Thran 2, Trent Geiken, Krayton Evenson, Dirk Thesing, and Adam Johannsen all had 1 stop each. Tyler Wrage also saw action as our center on the offensive line. Each and every kid had a very nice game at EM. We also had a couple sophomores help us out throughout the year and that is a tribute to these guys. The great thing is every time we needed someone, these guys all said "I'll play," which is awesome. Paul Chamberlain, Allen Heise, Alex Schick, and Colin Kern were the guys that helped out on and off throughout this year. Thanks to you guys for your dedication and willingness to help out the Freshmen. Great job.
Coach Evan Schulte, Coach Ben Lewis, and Coach Sean Babinat have done a great job with these guys all year. These guys know the game and are great at teaching it to the kids. Like I said earlier, with our struggles early in the year, these guys kept these young men going and competing. We are very fortunate to have these three guys on our sideline and not someone else. Thanks for all of your hard work and travel and congratulations on a very good year for the Freshmen.
