Katie Ryherd - G-R student

In June of last year, over half of our officer team went to COLT, Chapter Officer Leadership Camp. Camp lasts four days; the officers stayed in cabins at the 4-H Camp in Boone. The officer team learned new things about FFA and did team building activities such as a high ropes challenge course. Those present included Brittany Shinn, President; Brock Demoret, Vice President; Shelby Scarf, Treasurer; Katie Ryherd, Reporter; and the Sioux Central FFA chapter from Sioux Rapids, Iowa. They had a lot of fun and learned how to make their chapter more active.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA would like to thank Mid Iowa Co-op and Syngenta Seeds for donating $500 to the chapter and also an official FFA jacket. The jacket will be going to sophomore Logan Koester, who as a freshman, was among the top fruit sellers for last years fruit sale. Congratulations Logan!

Speaking of fruit sales, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA Chapter will be selling fruit in the near future! MinnTex Fund Raising Program supplies the fruit. If you are interested in purchasing fruit, ask an FFA member or stop by the high school to place an order. Sales start October 25th and end November 19th. Fruit will be delivered the second week of December.

On September 11th, twelve FFA members and four sets of parents attended the 2nd Annual FFA Freshman and Recruitment Picnic held at Mr. Mayes' house. It was a potluck and Mr. Mayes smoked three briskets. Many members and their dads shot clay birds, others played football, and the rest sat around and told stories. "After the sun went down we had a campfire, made smores, and talked about ways to get more people involved in the FFA," says Mr. Mayes. It was said that a fun time was had by all that attended.

From October 19th to October 23rd, some of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA members will be in Indianapolis, Indiana for the 83rd National Convention. Those students signed up already include Brittany Shinn, Logan Koester, Katrina Lovan, and Shelby Scarf. They will be doing workshops, going on tours, volunteering, and having fun!
