The Citizens For Reinbeck would like to let everyone in the community know what our plan is in regard to the Fireworks. We would have really liked to shot them on the evening of July 4th or 5th if the weather would have allowed. With the rain coming as it did it would have been very difficult to do the set up and keep the fireworks dry. Even if we could have accomplished that the weather at shoot time was not going to make for a good show or crowd. As a group we felt we would not have a good turnout if we shot them on a week night and we did not want to intrude on Felix Grundy Days (7/11) or Hudson Days (7/18). With that we have decided to cancel them for the 2010 calendar year. We are going to save the money for our 2011 July 4th celebration.
We also wanted to let people know why we did not refund admissions on the blow amusements in the park. We spend approximately $4,500 to bring those attractions to the park, and unfortunately that money is non- refundable to us. Last year we collected approximately $1000 to help pay for part of that cost. This year we took in around $175 in time we had set up and asked people to purchase only what they knew they could use in case we were rained out. (Exactly what happened) All in all we spend around $20,000 a year to put on the 4th of July celebration. The City contributed $5000 in 2010, we raised around $3,700 in can and bottle collections and we ask the local businesses to contribute the other $10,000. Those businesses have done that year after year and we felt we needed to use their money wisely. We hope everyone agrees with our decision and will be back next year to help us celebrate the 4th of July in Reinbeck.
For all of you who are disappointed in our decision. We hope you will please remember the real reason we celebrate July 4th. Please thank the service men and women who are currently serving for our country as well as all those veterans that have made us the free country we are and give us the ability to have and celebrate July 4th.
We would also ask that you thank all the volunteers and financial supporters that give their time, money and energy to see that this celebration continues year after year, and a special thank you to PCI for all of their help and support. They have always been there to help and support our festivities.
Sincerely Citizens For Reinbeck (4th of July Committee)
