Within the last few days, you should have received a census form in the mail. Required every 10 years by the U.S. Constitution, the 2010 Census will count every man, woman, and child living in the United States.
Every year the federal government distributes more than $400 billion based on census data. A lack of participation in the census will result in Grundy County, and the cities, receiving less federal funding and less access to important services and resources than we might otherwise receive.
Census data is also used to reapportion seats in Congress. Iowa may possibly lose a seat in Congress after the 2010 Census. An accurate count will help ensure people in Grundy County are fairly represented in all levels of government - federal, state, and county.
We would like to challenge everyone living in Grundy County to "take 10" - take 10 minutes to participate in the census by answering your 10 question census form to make sure Grundy County gets our fair share of federal funding, plus fair representation in all levels of government.
The 2010 Census form is the easiest it's ever been. It's confidential.
Together, we can create a better tomorrow for ourselves, our families, and everyone in Grundy County.
