Ruby was a childcare provider for 37 years, caring for over 50 children in her home, retiring in 1997. Ruby had the gift for remembering all of "her kids" and keeping track of their many accomplishments, when their paths would cross; Ruby often recalled fond memories of their childhood.

Ruby was an avid angel and doll collector. Her greatest collection however was her grandchildren whom she proudly bragged about. She often attended their many activities.

Ruby enjoyed weekly gatherings with her many friends at Saddlebrook and the monthly potlucks. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Bob; daughters, Kim Nissen of Iowa City and Patty Kennedy of Washington, Iowa and a son, Mike (Shari) Nissen of Freeport, Illinois; grandchildren, Dustin, Brian, Ali, Annie, T.J., LaShawna, Natoshia, Shane and Tyler; brothers and sisters, Lawrence (Mildred) Schroeder of Sheffield, Delbert Schroeder of Marion, Rebecca (Larry) Tull of Sheffield, Ruth (Stacy) Redmond of Mason City and Edward (Laura) Schroeder of Hampton.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Priscilla Schroeder.
