Dennis Dale Degner, 70, of Dysart, died at his home on February 2, 2010 following a battle with cancer. Visitation was February 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. The service was held at the Dysart United Methodist Church on February 8 at 10:30 a.m. Burial was at the Dysart Cemetery. He was born on December 21, 1939, in Waterloo, the son of Roland and Frances (Pippert) Degner. Dennis grew up in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Elaine Summers. They made their home on the Degner family farm near Dysart where Dennis lived his entire life. He worked for John Deere Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1994. Dennis and Elaine were foster parents for numerous children throughout the years. Dennis took great pride in being a roll model for his children, grandchildren, and foster children. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, farming, riding motorcycles, and telling jokes to his friends and family. He would always make time to visit with everyone. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; three children, Dale (Jodi) Degner of Reinbeck, Tami Knoll of Iowa Falls, and Cheri Degner of Dysart; four grandchildren, Dave, Jamie, Adam, and Aubri; two step-grandchildren, Daniel and Kayli; and three foster-daughters, Louise, Linda, and Jera.
