Robert Thiesen

Robert T. "Bob" Thiesen, 89, was born on the family farm outside Dysart on October 7, 1920. He attended school at Geneseo and graduated in 1938. On September 4, 1946, Bob married Berdeene Drake at the Baptist church in Waterloo.

Bob spent his entire life as a cattleman and a farmer. He was especially proud of farming his family farm and was looking forward to 2010 when the farm would receive the Century Farm designation. Bob was also proud of being a member of the state tournament basketball team from Geneseo in 1937. He enjoyed sports and especially Hawkeye women's basketball. He loved traveling and enjoyed taking Berdeene and their motor home on extended trips and researching the Thiesen family farm in Nebraska. He was a member of the Good Sam camping group and WIT-a Winnebago motor home group.

Death came to Bob on Sunday, November 8. 2009 while driving near his home. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Wallace, in 1981. Bob is survived by his wife, Berdeene; a daughter, Roberta (Myrlen) Simmons of Panora, IA; two grandchildren, Greg (Terri) Simmons of Des Moines and Valerie (Brian) Jurgens of Humbolt and their children Tabitha and Nolan; two sisters, Margaret Clardy of New Bloomfield, MO and Kathryn (Richard) Junker of Cedar Falls and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Overton Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 11 from 5 to 7 PM. Memorial service was held at Geneseo United Methodist Church in Buckingham on Thursday, November 12 at 2 PM.
