Medical Weight Management Program

August 21, 2009
Reinbeck Courier

GRUNDY CENTER -- Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) is beginning a new session of their Medical Weight Management New You Program.

In 2007, 26.9% of Iowans were obese according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Now is the time to rid your excess weight, develop a healthy lifestyle, gain confidence, feel and look better.

Classes will be Tuesday mornings beginning September 1st at 6:00 a.m. Classes will be held at the GCMH Education Room. Classes are scheduled to end in time for Thanksgiving!

How successful is the Medical Weight Management program? Graduates of past programs have lost an average of 18# during the 12 week program. All have learned lifelong habits they can continue to use to maintain or reach new goals.

Getting started can be difficult, "The hardest part was getting on that scale, once I knew what I weighed I just took the necessary steps and changed some unhealthy habits!" says one New You graduate. "You have to learn to believe in yourself and keep looking ahead. If I can do it, anyone can!" she says. Another graduate says, "I am maintaining and feeling good! I sleep better and had my blood pressure checked and it is lower than it has been in years!"

Are you ready for a New You? For more information or to register please contact the GCMH dietitian, Wendy Brewer at 319-824-5421. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. For information on other GCMH services please visit our website at
