Recently, I heard that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is cutting their field staff who go out to check on factory farm sites from 19 staff to 13. 13 people throughout the entire state is not enough to check on the 5,450 permitted and numerous non-permitted factory farms we currently have.
The aging population of rural Iowa should not have to put up with the degrading circumstances of living by factory farms. Now it will be even worse when we have next to no one to respond when a factory farm operator is polluting. If you find this outrageous call DNR director Rich Leopold at 515-281-6794 to let him know.
