This may be a short month but it was a full month.
First of all we have our Sing-A-Long on Sunday afternoons with Anna Marie Plaehn at the piano at 3 p.m. Feel free to come and join us for this.
Our senior walk program program started this month with several people from Westview doing this and also several people from the community have joined us for this, so anyone 55+ can come and do this with us.
Jean (Craig) Loger director and Dike New Hartford Show Choir perform for
Donna Peters had a good crowd out for our monthly blood pressure check.
Those that are participating in our Bible study on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. are enjoying it with Robin Plocher.
We've had good crowds for bingo and the LSB afternoon of Bunco; exercises are going good and cards on Tuesday afternoons at 1:30. We could use a few more bridge players along with pepper or 500 players.
On the 12th we watched an "I Love Lucy" video which is always good and funny and of course popcorn and juice.
For Valentine's Day we had a potluck dinner for everyone. Boy do we have some good cooks here at Westview, we had so much food.
Our tables had white table cloths and red valentine decorations and our waiters and waitresses were dressed in black and white. We celebrated the January and February birthdays with a candle in a cupcake for each one celebrating a birthday as well all sang Happy Birthday. We didn't think we had any January birthdays, but Rose Moser and Evelyn White moved in so now we have January birthdays. The February birthdays were: Diana Lauterbach on the 2nd; Leonard Mumm on the 5th; Ellie Hoffman on the 17th and Jack Needham on the 25th. So Happy Birthday to everyone. Our dining room was overflowing, anyone could invite guests.
We celebrated Wally & Ellie Hoffman 62nd wedding anniversary. Their daughter,Sharon HoffmanWambold brought us all kinds of good things to eat. So Happy Anniversary to a couple of special people.
We want to congratulate one of our faithful volunteer-Charlene Manlick as one of the 2008 Cedar Valley Hospice volunteers. Congratulations Char.
We have had fantastic entertainment this month. On the 19th the Johnson Strings came and played for us. It was mother and her six children. The mother played the keyboard and three daughters and a son played the violin and the two younger boys played the cello and they all sang.
What a talented family. The dad usually comes along but he was at work when they were here. They hung around afterwards and visited with everyone and that is what we like to do here. So thank you so much for coming to entertain us.
On the 26th the Dike-New Hartford Show Choir came and entertained us. What a show! Their dresses and shirts were bright red and beautiful. Our dining room was packed with people. Jean (Craig) Loger is the director and has a lot of relatives in this area so they came to see the show. They had already performed at Marshalltown and Gladbrook before coming here, so they had a busy day. Their singing and dancing was excellent. If you are a dancer, it was kind of hard to just sit there. Marian Ballard made cookies for the show choir so they had to leave so they took them along on the bus. Thank you Marian for doing this, they really enjoyed them. We moved the tables and chairs back and everyone stayed for coffee, lemonade, cupcakes and bars and everyone had a good visit. Thank you so much for a fun afternoon. Come back anytime. Also thanks to Charlene Manlick and Mae Jean Hoeppner for helping me serve the treats.
Christie has been on vacation or to meetings several days this month so I have been in the office so that is always fun. We have a good time here.
Barb Winterroth stops in at coffee break once in awhile and brings cookies. Thanks Barb thats our favorite past time sitting by the coffee pot either in the morning waiting for the mail or in the afternoon waiting for the Courier.
Christie attended the College Square Health and Wellness Fair and advertised for Westview.
On March 26th at 2 p.m. Dr. Valorie Prahl will be our guest speaker here at Westview about Health and Nutrition. Please mark this on your calendar and plan to attend this. Anyone can come but it will be beneficial for seniors. Valorie has just moved to this area so it will be a good chance to meet her.
Hopefully the weather shapes up in March as we are planning on our night on the town.
Guess I've rattled on long enough for this time. Take care and will be back next month.
