January 2009 Westview News

February 12, 2009
Irma Thede

January just buzzed by here just like the wind blowing the snow around today.

First of all I forgot to thank all the people that came last month to sing Christmas carols for us. A group came from the First Presbyterian Church following church services; everyone was in the dining room eating lunch so that was perfect timing. Another group came from the Methodist Church-this is always very much appreciated so thank you so much.

New Years Eve is always a fun time at Westview and once again a big thank you to my faithful volunteers: Gary & Marlys Karkosh for furnishing pizza from Nana Rosa and thanks to Doreen for sending along the bread sticks; also thanks to Dean & Donna Larsen, Christine Bolin and Connie Thede.

After eating the evening was spent playing a dice game and of course the whole bit with hats, horns and even wine. Sounds like everyone had a good time. I had a total knee replacement on Dec. 29th so I got to spend New Years Eve at the hospital in Iowa City, coming home on New Years Day.

We haven't done much this month with the weather being so cold then it was slick so we didn't have our night out on the town. Then the flu bug hit a few of us and some had colds. We did start a Bible Study group on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. Robin Plocher is helping out with this so I bet anyone can come and join in on this so thanks to you Robin. We had bingo one afternoon. LSB entertained us with bunco and treats on the 28th. Always cards on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Thanks to Marlys Boege for helping out with my exercise classes while I was gone. We have had a meal from the Corner Cafe, Fountain On Mail and Nana Rosa's this month.

Our house keeper, Connie Thede, had a chance to go with some friends to California for a few days but we are happy to have her back home.

Marilyn Storjohann and Mae Jean Hoeppner made a big batch of our snow ice cream which is always good.

On Feb. 11th at 3:00 p.m. we will be having a meeting in the dining room for a walking program, so if anyone is interested they can certainly come and join us if you are 55+. Let's all get a head start on warm weather walking. We will be walking in the Westview halls. If you like some more details about this just give us a call at 345-6761.

Nobody had a birthday in January so we will really have to party in February.

Will tell you more exciting news next month. Take Care.
